SDTC further invests in companies from Seed to Scale-up

From Seed Fund to Start-up to Scale-up, SDTC finds, funds and fosters the game changing technologies that are critical in a low-carbon economy.  

Today Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, announced SDTC’s investment of $24.8 million in nine small businesses across Canada that are commercializing solutions to support Canada’s leading industries transition to a low carbon future.

In Thetford Mines, QC, Soléco has developed a process for converting low value, mixed plastic waste into diesel which diverts difficult to valorize waste plastics from landfills. KSM Inc.  plans to be the first company to produce high end fertilizers (SOP and SOPM) in Canada made from two abundant Canadian feedstocks (potash and serpentine).

Inmotive of Toronto, ON has developed a novel two-speed transmission, called the Ingear, to improve the powertrain efficiency of passenger electric vehicles, thereby reducing battery energy use per mile driven. 

Farmers Edge is a global leader in decision agriculture delivering real-time risk management solutions for farmers, retailers, and other agricultural stakeholders. Based in Winnipeg, MB, since 2005, Farmers Edge has helped farmers increase their yields, maximize their revenues, reduce their costs of production, and implement data-driven practices for sustainability. 

In Calgary, AB, Swirltex treats wastewater through a novel process that improves on conventional membrane technology providing higher quality results with less energy consumption. Hifi Engineering builds world-class sensing and monitoring technology for intelligent wellbores and pipelines. Modern Wellbore Solutions has developed a downhole multilateral junction for shale oil & gas producers that enables multiple lateral wells to be drilled and accessed from a single well pad -reducing drilling and associated cost and emissions. 

 In BC, Motion Metrics is developing a machine learning and AI-based solution that enables real-time optimization of ore crushing/grinding circuits in Vancouver and Pani Energy is developing optimization tools for water treatment plants that aggregates and analyzes data from different sources in Victoria.
