SDTC is providing the right funding at the right time

Our investments in Canadian start-ups and scale-ups are creating jobs while having real impact on Canada’s environment. Our seed funding matches promising early-stage sustainability entrepreneurs with a one-time non-repayable contribution of $50,000 to $100,000. SDTC works with Canadian accelerators to identify entrepreneurs who will become tomorrow’s sustainability leaders.

At SDTC, we believe in building a strong Canadian innovation ecosystem. We partner with incubators and accelerators across Canada in communities, big and small. Encourage your accelerator to become our next partner simply by emailing seedfund@sdtc.ca. We are looking forward to setting up an introductory call and to expanding our innovation network.

How it works

SDTC Seed Funding supports promising early-stage Canadian entrepreneurs with one-time non-repayable contribution of $50,000 to $100,000 for innovative technological projects with environmental benefits.

We partner with a select group of approved Canadian accelerators and other entrepreneurial service organizations across Canada to identify the entrepreneurs who will become tomorrow’s cleantech leaders.

Potential applicants must be nominated by one of our accelerator partners.

Eligibility Requirements

Be nominated by one of our partner accelerators and be a Canadian-owned company operating in Canada .
Have an idea that brings technology to bear on a significant environmental problem and an entrepreneurial team with the skills to take that idea to the next level.
Be past the R&D stage and looking to take first steps towards figuring out how to commercialize your idea.

Be able to describe how your idea will demonstrate quantifiable environmental benefits (i.e., GHG reduction, circular economy, promoting well-being for humans and our environment.).
Have raised at least twice the amount of requested funding through private equity sources, not including monies from friends and family.

No, applications will only be accepted through an SDTC-approved accelerator partner. We recognize the support provided by accelerators is critical to a company’s growth (e.g., mentorship, financial management, business plan, marketing).

SDTC Seed Funding seeks to support companies developing sustainable technologies in focus areas including but not limited to  GHG reduction, circular economy, promoting well-being for humans and our environment.

With the initial vetting and due diligence is done by accelerators, the funding process is fast and streamlined. From the time of application to successful applicants receiving funds is less than eight weeks. This program has immediate impact, getting capital to where it’s needed, quickly.
