SDTC Support Translates to Economic and Environmental Benefits
SDTC support translates into jobs, growth, and export opportunities for Canadian companies, as well as economic and environmental benefits for all Canadians.
The adoption of clean technologies is expanding across multiple industries and sectors, bringing with it cost savings and competitive advantages, while reducing environmental impacts, and enabling compliance with regulatory standards.
SDTC is focused on results and delivering value. We track, measure, and report out the performance of each project undertaken by our portfolio companies so we can demonstrate the impact of SDTC funding on Canada’s clean tech commercialization and to the economy as a whole.
Our Corporate Plans, Annual Reports and Annual Report Supplements share SDTC’s results reporting in their entirety, including financial information. Please visit our Engage section to access this information.
SDTC funded projects provide economic benefits including:
Economic Benefits
Jobs, Revenues and Commercialization
We use two primary metrics to measure the economic benefits derived by SDTC-supported companies: jobs and revenues. By the end of March 2018, SDTC-supported projects had created 10,943 new jobs (direct and indirect) attributable to SDTC-funded projects as of March 31, 2018 and were generating $2.7 billion in annual revenues for Canadian cleantech companies.

Environmental Benefits
Our primary measurement of environmental benefits is via the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions achieved by each project SDTC-supported project undertaken by our portfolio companies.

Other Environmental Benefits
SDTC-supported projects are identified by the primary environmental benefit that the technology supports: climate change, air quality, clean water, or clean soil. Most SDTC supported technologies, however, contribute to more than one environmental benefit with nearly all projects having a secondary co-benefit; others having two or three co-benefits.
