Building Partnerships that Strengthen Canada’s Climate Tech Ecosystem 

Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) Chair Annette Verschuren and President & CEO Leah Lawrence joined Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne today to highlight Canada’s investment in climate technologies and learn more about collaboration between SDTC companies to scale their businesses here in Canada.

“It is no surprise Canadian cleantech innovation is one of the best in the world,” said Leah Lawrence, President and CEO of SDTC. “Today’s investment will ensure we continue to strengthen Canadian entrepreneurship and empower cleantech innovators to lead the global path to Net Zero. Congratulations to all the companies receiving funding today, we are inspired by your commitment and dedication to sustainable development and are proud to support you on this journey.”

Minister Champagne announced an investment of $44.3M in 11 Canadian climate-tech businesses that are taking climate technology to the next level. From Ecoation’s AI-powered greenhouse management system to QEA Tech’s smart drone platform that detects building energy loss, to Environmental Material Science’s new process to speed the natural breakdown of contaminants in soil, Canadian climate tech is revolutionizing every sector of the economy.

It will not only create many thousands of well-paying jobs but also help build a sustainable future for all Canadians. With this investment in clean technologies, we are strengthening support for the Canadian innovators forging the global path to a net-zero reality by 2050” said the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry.

The companies receiving SDTC funding are developing innovative climate technologies across the following sectors:

Agriculture

• Terramera Inc. in Vancouver BC, receives $7.9M for developing a soil carbon validation tool​.
• Ecoation from North Vancouver, BC receives $3.1M their Farming as a Service (FaaS).

Chemical Products

• Lorama Group Inc.. in Mississauga, ON receives $2.6M for developing bio-adhesive to replace formaldehyde-based adhesives for wood composite board production.
• Pyrogenesis Canada Inc. in Montreal, QC receives $0.7M for developing a new plasma process to produce fumed silica.

Energy Utilization

• Molded Precision Components in Oro-Medonte, ON receives $9.3M for Pellet-to-Pallet: Green Advanced Manufacturing of Plastics
• QEA Tech Inc. in Markham, ON receives $1.1M for developing an AI-powered drone platform and quantifying energy losses from outside the building.
• OPTEL Group in Quebec, QC receives $3.03M to develop an Intelligent Supply Chain for Environmental Benefits.

Energy Exploration and Production

• Flyscan System Inc. in Quebec City, QC receives $1.5M for airborne detection of small liquid pipeline leaks.

Water Electrolysis

• Hydrogen Optimized in Owen Sound, ON receives $4.8M to advance the commercialization of its high current water electrolysis system for producing Green Hydrogen at scale.

Waste Management

• Environmental Material Science Inc, in Edmonton, AB receives $4.1M for Sustainable Environmental Remediation.

Water Treatment

• Axine Water Technologies Inc. in Vancouver BC, receives $6.2M for the development and demonstration of a second generation, digitized wastewater treatment system.
