Dr. Elizabeth Parr-Johnston, C.M., D Litt. - President, Parr Johnston Economic and Policy Consultants
Between 1996 and 2002, Dr. Parr-Johnston was President and Vice Chancellor of the University of New Brunswick. Prior to that, she served as President and Vice Chancellor of Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax. Over her career, Dr. Parr-Johnston has held senior management positions with Inco Ltd., Shell Canada Ltd. and the Government of Canada. A recognized economist, she was Senior Policy Analyst and Director of Government Affairs for Inco Ltd and held numerous senior ranked positions during 10 years with Shell Canada Ltd, including Manager of Products Strategic Systems for Oil Products Marketing. She has research expertise in economic and educational policy and speaks and writes on higher education in Canada, public policy and general management issues.
Dr. Parr-Johnston is a past chair of the Association of Atlantic Universities and of the Council of Nova Scotia University Presidents, a past member of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council. She is a Director of the Bank of Nova Scotia, Emera Limited, Nova Scotia Power, The Canadian Millennium Scholarship Foundation, the Council for Canadian Unity, and the Social Research and Demonstration Corporation. She has served as a Director of Fishery Products Limited, Empire Company Limited, Mutual Life of Canada, the Investment Dealers Association, the North South Institute, BioAtlantech and Celanese Internationalist Fellowships. Dr. Parr-Johnston has been active in many community and professional associations including currently Symphony Nova Scotia, National Theatre Schools and Future Generations, and previously Calgary's Learning Centre for learning disabilities, Dellcrest Home for emotionally disturbed children, the Ontario John Howard Society, the Ontario Economic Council and Calgary in the 21st Century's Infoport Task Force.
A Woodrow Wilson Fellow, Dr. Parr-Johnston holds a master's degree and doctorate in economics from Yale University, and a BA (honours) from Wellesley College where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa (honorary society). She received a Doctorate in Literature from the University of New Brunswick.
